Happy (Chinese) New Year

Chinese New Year 1 23 2012
Happy Chinese New Year!
I had great intentions to get back into blogging on January 1st. Since I missed that date I thought the Chinese New Year would do nicely.   So here I am determined to draw my way through 2012. I can't ever seem to get my sketch book, a little time and a pencil all together at the same time, so I decided to get a sketchbook instead of a calendar this year. I draw something every day. I won't post daily (for that I am sure you are all glad), but I will most the fun stuff.

So I rather like my green dragon. He needs a name - any suggestions? Leave a comment with your suggestion.

Here's hoping your next fortune cookie is filled with awesome sauce.

Black and White envelope Exchange

So I joined the Calligraphy Exchange group in Yahoo and entered the black and white envelop exchange for June. Here's my offerings. I also sent them blank Joy cards that they will have to doodle themselves.  Its a fun group, you should check it out. The next exchange closes  on June 15th.

Mothers day is coming

Mother's Day is quickly approaching. What are you doing for mom? I think you should purpose to spend more time with her. Take her to a movie, or shopping or to the local theater. Invite her over for dinner. As my kids are grown up and move out, I long to spend time with them, just like they longed to spend time with me when they were little. Showing up is 90% of thing.

God is good all the time, & all the time God is good.

This week's Doodle Verse is my Son's favorite saying. Not exactly a verse this week, but a universal truth none the less.  This was a great doodle to do during quiet time. Print  a blank sheet and have time doodle time with the Lord. Scan and email me your piece at blessinks@live.com, and I just might post it here next week.  Here's the link to take you to the down load. Visit the Doodle Verse Page: http://blessinks.com/DoodleVerses.aspx    Happy Doodling!

Doodle Verse - Eph 1:11-12

I've always envied people who could journal for pages and pages and do it consistently. I've tried and failed more times that I can remember. I have finally come the conclusion that I am not a journal person. But then one day I noticed a trend in my sermon note book - The pages had good sermon notes, but they were also filled with beautiful doodles. I decided that maybe I was a visual journal person. So DoodleVerse is my way that I connect to the Father by doodling and meditating over the verse and finally memorizing the verse.

If you'd like to doodle this too, click here DoodleVerse - Creation for an outline for you to doodle as well. If you like what you did, scan it an email me and I'll post it next week!

Happy Doodling., Marsha

Homemade Holiday Ornament Exchange and Contest for you

This year I participated in BluPenny.com's Homemade Holiday Ornament Exchange.  We were a group of 4 and our name was the Fruitcakes. So knowing that friends don't give friends fruitcakes, I decided to go with the fruit theme but make visual puns.  This was my first foray with sculpy clay, so they turned out ok, but realized that sculpting is not my calling. But it was a fun project none the less, and on top of that I get three cool ornaments in return.

So to add a little fruit punch to  my post this week and getting in the holiday spirit, here's a quick contest. If you can guess all 4 of my fruit based visual puns, email me at marsha@marshabaker.com. If you're right I will put your name in a drawing for a set of my butterfly stationary - to be pictured later. Entries must be received by December 24th at 1 pm Central time. I will randomly draw from all entries with all 4 correct answers.

Happy punning, Marsha

2011 Calendar John 15:5

Here's my calendar for 2011. I design this calendar for an Italian Mission in Turin Italy. Grapes seemed to go well with Italy and I love the verse they suggested. Now on to finish up those Christmas Cards - its going to be a quiz.  Stay tuned!

Abundantly Blessed

Just a piece I've done as I feel so abundantly blessed with all that I have. I have the best family and the Lord has blessed us richly. We are humbled by His graciousness and ever thankful. Take time to count your blessings this holiday season.

The Envelope Exchange

Here are the envelopes I sent off to Jill for the Envelope Exchange. There's still time to enter if you get them to her by November 30th. Here's more information:

Can't wait to see what cool envelopes I get! These are a bit distorted as I am having technical problems with the big red X. But be assured that the real envelopes (and I sent stationary too as a bonus) are cool.

Everybody loves ice cream!

Just thought I'd have a little fun with Illustration Friday. Everybody loves dessert. As a kid, I always wanted to see how many scoops I could really eat, but was never that adventurous.  So go get some ice cream today!
