Here are some logo designs I’ve done for a church. They’re really struggling with their branding. They want to be casual, and inviting. If you were the average joe, which of these 5 logos says – You’re warmly welcomed here? Please vote on the poll to the right
And if you leave me a comment – the more critical the better – do you like the colors, should the water drop be different, different font choice, or move element 1 in logo # to logo ##…. I will put you in a drawing for a set of 8 Butterfly Peace blank greeting cards that I have also designed – see below. Please reply by Saturday April 24th. Drawing late Saturday night – Central time. Thanks much for your feedback. Marsha

I'm voting for No.2
ReplyDeleteReason being that it has the nicest color scheme. It carries harmony, soothing, and nature feeling. It's not too overcrowded with details, easy to understand and leaves a very strong impression to the audience ^^
Hi Marsha! I LOVE design 3 for a couple of reasons. First I like the green you've chosen. I always associate green with life and the particular shade you've chosen also reads "spring" to me (yes I know the name means more like "water spring" not "seasons spring", but still.). Second the font is great. It's playful which would read well to young audiences and families. The blue font you had for the the word spring in the other options makes Life Spring seem more like a bottled water company (not bad, just doens't say "church" to me). The font for choice 3 seems more friendly. Third, I like the blue swoosh underneath the lettering as it ties back in with the spring theme. Overall, I like what you created with all the options, but number 3 seems to be the most open and friendly. Thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteI like number 5 because of the treatment of the water droplet with the cross. I think the others look like a logo for bottled water, as Elizabeth said above. I would adjust the kerning, though. The word 'Life' seems too spread out and 'Spring' too crowded. I like the font since all caps doesn't emote "friendly" in my opinion. I would make the words 'community church' all one color.
ReplyDeleteI'm torn between 2 and 5: I like the water droplet and the color/treatment of the swoosh in 2 and I like the cross and the alternating colors in Community Church in 5.
ReplyDeleteI also like the Green in 5 (is it slightly darker than the 2?)and feel the "community" could be a little darker in 5 make it closer to the color of the "Spring"
Maybe combine 2 and 5?
Of course you realise we are all going to say different ones! For me no 1 really stands out - the colours I think work better than the blue and green, the yellow and blue are near compliments so vibrate nicely but not TOO much. The typefaces compliment each other well, it has energy and I like the water droplet's reference to the source of everything - it's subtle and engaging, it makes me think, which is important I feel.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the typeface in 3 and 4 at all - I think it's just wrong for this frankly - the ones you have chosen in the other examples, including 1, look fresh, bold and (in design terms) clean to me.
Yes - I'm with Number 5 - the two green colours are a lot more life affirming than number 1 but I think the clinching detail is the cross onthe candle. The symbolism defines the purpose of the logo!
ReplyDeleteI like the bottom one, but your kerning is way too tight between the I" and the "N". Give them a bit more space. Actaully that entire word is very tightly kerned compared to the word "Life". They don't have to take up the same visual space. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI too like #5 and agree with Revelle on the spacing. For a church, that cross in the water drop makes it! Can you change it to look more like the drops in the other ones and still keep the cross?
ReplyDeleteVery creative designs!
I like number 5 for a number of reasons. The water droplet with the cross being the first. I like the spacing in LIFE as it draws attention to it. Having LIFE the same color as CHURCH works as I view the Church as Life for myself. The arc beneath brings everything together and reminds me of arms in an embrace. Good job.
ReplyDeleteI picked #4 because that was the one that popped out at me but i would like to see one with the light face font used in life through out with the cross in the water drop. I like the larger font in #4 for Community Church. Also LifeSpring and community Church should align (same width) to be more unified. I also like the color in #4 the best.

I chose 5 b/c I like the classic quality of the font--it won't look dated in a few years--and the cross in the water drop, and the colors. Our church recently changed logos and found that blue shows up better than green on websites and other places logos go, so you might play with the tint of your green.
ReplyDeleteI'm no graphic artist, to be sure, but I like #5 best. I'm not sure if the swoosh underneath works for this though. It reminds me too much of bottled waters. I like the cross inside the drop of water, which helps take away from that.
ReplyDeleteNo. 3 gets my vote. I like the one word idea. My eye jumped to Spring and then back to Life on the logos with type variations. Not sure that the green is the strongest, but favor it over the brownish color.
ReplyDeleteNumber 1 is my clear favorite. I don't like the green/blue combination that much. The yellow harmonizes better and is a nice but not too strong contrast I think. Also, to me the font looks more "professional" to me (compared to the all-capitals one).
ReplyDeleteHowever, this is just my very subjective liking, I don't have any education in design or anything the like. ^^
I'm curious to see which one you choose in the end!
I like number 2 the best. I like the softness of the green, and having two different colors really makes it stand out, but gently. There's something about having the letters all one color that just doesn't feel right to me - I have no idea why! Do let us know which one you pick! nancy
ReplyDeleteI voted #5 - I like the alternating blue & green words and the colored swoosh - it gives it more depth, I think.
ReplyDeleteHi Marsha! Susan from the 12WC - just found your blog and am your new follower! Wow these logos are amazing - I was really torn between 2 and 5. I love 2 because of the lighter 'swoosh' as amplegoddess mentioned - but ultimately, I absolutely love the cross in the water droplet, it's such a simple but ingenious touch! Best of luck and let us know what you decide.

Have a great week and I'll see ya at the clubhouse!
Hi Marsha,
ReplyDeleteI think if you put the smaller drop in #5 that one has the most visual impact for me. The larger drop with the cross seems a bit busy--the fonts & colors work very well together and have a freshness I like. Bod Bless You!
This post is highly appreciated! It never once crossed my mind for my blog to be in mobile devices, its a wide opening idea.
